3RD AKU WORKSHOP TAKES PLACE IN SIENA, ITALY

 The third Alkaptonuria workshop took place in the historic Santa Maria Della Scalla in Siena, Italy this year on 27th October 2009. The workshop attracted academics around the world including Professor Tim Cox of Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, Doctor Wendy Introne of the National Institute of Health in the US and Annalisa Santucci, Professor at The University of Siena.

The conference was a chance to showcase some of the interesting and innovative Alkaptonuria Research that is currently being undertaken around the world.

Dr Alessandro Mannoni from Siena stressed the importance of a national referral centre and the need to identify more patients, Professor Annalisa Santucci provided insights into Alkaptonuria Research at the University of Siena, and Dr Ranganath and Adam Taylor from the University of Liverpool, talked about our progress here to date which has exciting implications for building a model of ochronosis.
