A century ago senior physician at Great Ormond Street Hospital Archibald Garrod gave a lecture to the Royal College of Physicians about AKU. Since then, the medical profession has been working together with patients and specialist disease societies, such as the AKU Society. A recent article, from the October 2007 Bulletin of the Royal College of Pathologists, traces the history of these collaborations, including the most recent efforts by the AKU Society and the University of Liverpool to find a cure for this condition.
